PAINTING STUDIO Update and The Robe by Stephen Craig Rowe

PAINTING STUDIO UPDATE:  Had my next to last dose of chemo this past Wednesday and will have the last treatment on the 28th of this month.  Will also have a consult with the surgeon on the 28th hopefully for pre op info and a date for the operation.  Has been a rather long six months of chemo and will be glad to be free of the no joy juice.  Very thankfull that the magical medical brew has shrunk the tumor enough to be surgically removed.

This past week I spent four days in Veterans Admin Hospitals in Danville, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana.  It was a dark, raining, cold week and I don't know if it was the weather, drugs, pain, or lack of will but there were more than usual Veterans wandering about with their lights out, or running on dim.  It is sad to see them doing the lithium shuffle or mumbling nothings to themselves.  Once so strong and proud and now reduced to frailty and dependence.  Even on my darkest days I remain animated and fire up the light in order to keep myself out of the shadow world and shine as bright as I am able to share.

In Indianapolis I was out on the hospital grounds taking a sniff of fresh air laced with cold rain when a spooky looking dude with glazed eyes got in my face and said,
" You got any pills? "  At first I did not reply and gave him the get out of my space and face look that normally sends intruders away without a word.  This dude was too stoned or dim witted to read the sign and again said,
" You got any pills?"  This time I replied,
" Yes I have vitamins, baby asprin, and chemo.  I know you don't want any vites or asprin, see this pack I have slung over my shoulder and that tube running to my chest.  It is pumping chemo into my body right now.  I advise you to turn around, dissapear and while doing so count your blessings."  He mumbled, " Shit man! ", turned and walked away.

I have not had a robe since I was a child and have been looking for one as of late for the cool fall and the comming cold winter.  You know, something to throw on after a shower or hot soak.  To wear on a cold night with a good book and glass of brandy.  Well I was in the hospital gift shop and came across my robe.  A $70 robe marked down to $19 and the deal was done.  Tested it out last night and am more than pleased with the purchase as I was all warm and cozy enjoying a simple pleasure with my lights on.  May your light ever shine bright and
    as ever be well,
    Stephen Craig Rowe

It started in his colon he had surgery, and everything went ok,but they found it in his liver also. The doctor told him to mix warm salt water, and rinse ahead of time for mouth sores, so far its worked, but he has other problems. Anyway know what he wanted? A warm robe,, so I went and bought him one today. Keep that light shining my friend.

Thank you for the warm welcome back Stephen : ) Yes I remember your old handle, "defiantsanctuary", it was most unique, much like yourself. Alot of us back then had some very unique handles, lol. It has been a good long time indeed. This blog, Is a new blog that I made up recently, ( i had much fun doing so ), but I must ask, how on earth did you know it was me !!!!

Isabella, is a name that I chose for myself and i'm in the midst of trying to have it legally changed, long story indeed, but that is what i'm going by in RL as well as on the Internet. I've not used Trish in a very long time, either way, regardless, I was so very much amazed to see from your comment on my blog that you knew it was me dearest Stephen !

Sounds like you live the way I tend to prefer, but with my meds I need a 25 hour life!!! LoL!!!

I'm with you on the dreams - I even get occasional whiffs of scents and even taste/texture in food I eat in my dreams occasionaly!

I'm wondering if maybe having Paranoid Schizophrenia has enhanced my dream experience?

No matter though: It's good fun and like you I enjoy slipping back into sleep to finish my dreams!!!

God Bless my friend and get well soon!!!

Your light is an inner light and you are the power that drives it. Somehow you call upon that light when those dark shadows pluck at you. You glow, Mien Schatz.

Robes are the best thing since slice bread. Nothing better then curling up on the couch in your pj's and a nice fuzzy warm robe and a book. Or a good movie, take your pick : )

I'm sorry to hear about your fight with cancer, but i'm happy to read that the fight has not been in vain. I'm glad that they will be able to remove your tumor and that the chemo has done it's job. I wish you well on your road to recovery.

Prayers and Blessing for you : )

You are responsible for me coming back. Somehow I was in spaces yesterday which is rare and I saw your name and I went to your space to catch up with you. Three hours later, after I read about a year's worth of blogs, I went outside and sat numbly trying to take it all in. My beautiful friend, I had no idea that you were going through this battle with cancer. My goodness, I had no idea. You have been so significant in my life and I am sure you must realize it. Over the years, I have drank up your beautiful paintings, poems and words and I am more enriched for it. About a year ago, my therapist/coach/friend has been having treatments for the colon cancer they found when he just had a routine colon exam. There was a gratefruit size tumor they were able to remove and I have followed all his chemo treatments. Probably the same time as yours. I went back as far as I could with when you discovered it. I read everything and loved seeing the pictures of your beautiful mother and sisters. How beautiful that you have a loving family giving you so much support.
I LOVED the pictures of you and think you are more attractive with your head exposed. These pictures really capture the man behind the paintbrush and words. I read over and over the way you described cleaning the painting studio and I got really into it because I do thse same things and it's never a chore to me but an honor to polish my dwelling place.
I cried through the letters you wrote to your father because I feel the same way about my parents. Time has NOT made it easier though and I find I miss them more when I am facing adversity and the unknown and yet their presense seems more real. Of course it's not enough for me. The fact is, it will never be enough. This month of October is the month I loss everyone, my parents, my son, my husband and two best friends so I just stop fighting it and let it wash through me as often as it wants.
    What can I do for you? Name it, Stephen and if it is feasable, it's yours. I am screaming cheers for you and am so proud of my friend, Stephen Craig. You are so loved, dear friend {{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}

Your composure talking to the "spooky dude" is an inspiration ( and it brought tears to my eyes to think of you like that). Keep smiling. :-) The robe sounds a good bargain - enjoy.

Your thinking about being in hospital, that's why your thinking you need a robe, new pj's as well and some slippers as well. Then you will feel and look your best after the surgery.

I am so pleased to know that you new heve a "comfort robe." I am certain it is just what the doctor ordered. You are in the right place and in an excellent state of mind. I am so proud to know you and read what you share with us. It does touch my soul in a profound way. To quote someone I care about...
